Favorite Christmas Traditions: Grinch Party

One of our favorite family Christmas traditions is our annual "Grinch Party."  This may not be what you think.  It's not us sitting around like Dr. Suess' Grinch, hating the Whos, but it's a fantastically fun family party, it's super easy to pull off, and everyone loves it!

Here's the plan:

1) Everyone has to scavenge through their drawers and around the house and/or at our local Goodwill or similar discount store for green clothes.  Everyone is expected to wear green!  And the greener the better!  Why green!?  It's a Grinch Party...need I say more!?  Green is not just a good idea, IT'S THE LAW!

2) All snacks to need to be green...or have a green theme.  One favorite is a large bowl of green peanut M&Ms.  The holiday bag is best because it has only green and red M&Ms in it, so once you fish out the red ones you are ready to rock! (M&M-wise, that is...)

Other green snack ideas include 7-Up or Sprite and green sherbet for green floats, pistachio nuts, pistachio pudding, green Kool-Aid, a large bottle of pickles, cucumbers, celery, green lettuce or spinach salad and Green Goddess dressing, green cake with green frosting, green-frosted sugar cookies, and you don't have to be a complete green-purist either...we also use snacks that come in green packaging like sour cream and onion chips, etc.  Let your snacking mind run wild.

3) If you really want to have some extra Grinch fun you could get a Who-hairdo.  To do this you will need long hair and a cup the right size to rest on top of your head that your hair can cover when it's tied into a bow on the top of your head...pony tails coming off the sides of the head are also a nice touch!  If you don't have hair that's long enough to pull that off, large bows are an equally nice touch.  Here's our crew ready for the Grinch Party last year.  Note the gals' "Who-hairdos".

4) Now that you have donned the green, you've got the green snacks, and the hair, you are ready for the movie!  This is when we have our annual watching of "Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" starring Jim Carrey!  Let the good times, snacks, and movie quotes roll!

We love the GREEN!

Merry Christmas!
